Château Lafon-Rochet in Saint-Estèphe dates back to the middle of the 17th Century, and like most producers in Bordeaux it was named after the owners of the time. Today it is owned by the Tesseron family and run by Basile Tesseron. Lafon-Rochet was awarded Fourth Growth status in 1855, and after a slump in quality in the 1970s, it has improved vastly and is worthy once again of its status.
The 45 hectares of vineyards are in almost one single parcel with three soil types - limestone, marl and clay - and is planted in 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
